Winter 2006
You'll notice a new look to celebrate our tenth issue.
Katerini, the artist whose work has graced our splash page since
Flushed began has contributed a beautiful new piece with these
thoughts to accompany it.
Blume
As a little girl I often wondered who I would be when I
grew up.
As a woman I often wish I could still see the world with
innocent eyes.
As I "blume" from girl to woman, the best I
can ask for is for me to be a little bit of both.
The flowers represent my childhood sense of wonder and my
present sense of who I am at this moment.
We've had a good time doing this issue. We're starting
our second year as an editorial collective and although the membership
has gradually changed, the process has remained stable. Thanks
to all the collective members, past and present, for your wonderful
ideas and your attention to detail that contribute to the excellence
that is Flushed.
Here's what you'll find in #10:
Fiction: SALAD gives us food for thought.
Links: As
well as useful sites relating specifically to eating, food and
health issues, we try to let you know about some that are just
amazing fun. Take a look at ehow.com and ninjabooks.com to brighten
up the winter days.
Poetry:
A bumper crop of poems for your delight.
The Gallery has
some photos that will remind you that summer will come again,
and that Canada has some of the most beautiful sights in the
world.
Reviews: We
love hearing about books from our readers. There's
a growing number of people who are trying their hand at writing
a book review for the first time including two very young girls...
We've developed a set of guidelines to make it easy, and
included it at the beginning of the Review section. So, take
a look and let's hear from you.
Literary non- fiction: A
range of thoughts and ideas from our range of readers.
And don't forget to check our Archives for
back issues that you might have missed.
