the editors
This, the 7 th issue of Flushed is being prepared by a newly
formed editorial collective composed of a small number of Sheena's
Place volunteers with a broad range of skills, interests and experience.
Looking after the mechanics of publishing the ‘zine this
way helps us to be both consistent and flexible, maintaining a
core of stability and welcoming new ideas and energy. The collective
meets on Tuesday and Friday mornings in the library and its members
also keep the library in order. If you're interested in becoming
involved with us, contact Wendy Campbell at Sheena's Place.
As we continue to hear from both contributors and readers, Flushed
is starting to feel more and more like a community, casting a wide
net over the ocean of people interested in issues of food and eating,
body image and self-esteem. One of the letters we received recently
said, “Thank you for creating a positive and open forum for
all of us who are affected by these issues. I've never had
an eating disorder myself, but too many of my friends have, and,
like most of us, I feel that constant pressure as a woman not to
take up too much space, to be in control, to base my sense of self
on how I look.”
We hope we're playing a small part in helping people make
sense of this complex world we live in, and that you'll let
us know if we are or if we aren't and why.
