In Binge No More, Dr. Joyce Nash provides information
on practically everything there is to know about binge
eating – what it is, the different types of binges,
how they start and relate to eating disorders and how
to overcome them. The book contains facts, statistics,
clients’ personal stories about binge eating,
exercises to help readers identify their own eating
behaviours and resources, including website and email
addresses, to get more information and/or help with
their situation.
At first, I found this book a little overwhelming
and had trouble getting through parts of it. There
is so much detail and some of it repeats itself several
times throughout the book. However, the chapters vary
in length and each contains useful information, including
charts, lists and/or figures. I felt Dr. Nash really
took the time to explain some of the ideas, thoughts
and feelings involved with binge eating. I liked how
this book presented the issue of binge eating in
two parts: information on what it is and then information
on how to handle it. Also, I felt that this book took
me through a step-by-step learning process. In the
beginning, I was introduced to the who, what, how and
why of binge eating; then, how to assess and change
my eating behaviours and coping skills and finally
ending off with how to identify and prevent a relapse.
I learned a lot about my eating habits, how I relate
to food and changes I can make to both.
Binge No More is for anyone looking for a thorough
self-help approach to deal with their binge eating.
It can also be helpful to use to educate yourself before
using other treatments.
