5. The Broom Maker and his Broom

The broom maker swings the product of his hands in a wide arc.

With a gently oscillating motion he digs the broom corn ingrain.

Fast yet slow, he finds the correct speed and pressure to make the fine tuned bristles work their magic over yellow pine floors.

"The Broom Maker" was written after spending a week with a broom maker from Intercourse, PA. I watched him using his broom and the whole set of his body was different from anyone I've ever seen sweep a floor. It was more like a dance than a cleaning task. There was a kind of magic in the motion.
