Painting by Katerini

For centuries, Flowers have been used to show a form of expression. We give flowers to show love, happiness, sympathy, thankfulness & celebrations. I draw flowers to express my feelings and emotions. Simple flowers can still bring wonder, only if we allow ourselves to come a little closer.

Come Closer
From afar my appearance seems somber
My petals appear limp
My smile is sad

Come Closer
From where you are your perception is tainted
My petals are gentle
My smile is still hopeful

Come a little closer
From this distance you can feel a lifeline
My petals are graceful
My smile is modest

Take one more step
From here you can hear me breathe
I know you are still comparing the others to me
Their vibrant colors, they stand tall with confidence
How can I even come close? In your eyes I don't compare.

Please reach out your hand and close your eyes
Come closer
My petals are hanging on ever so softly
Trace my smile,
A child's anticipation of a gift

Take one step back
Open your eyes
Are my petals still limp?
Is my smile still sad?

If everyone took the time to look harder, come a little closer, allow themselves to feel love for the one that is not the obvious-there wouldn't be so many sad smiles, limp petals, so many gentle flowers not chosen to be loved.
