2. Perfect Illusions: Eating Disorders and the Family

Reviewed by Gay Bell

I thought this video was excellent, particularly as an introduction to the issues. The information was well organized, not confused or muddled, even though it is a confusing topic. The learning items were well spaced so it wasn't too much at once. Nor was it too intense or too 'deep' for an introductory piece. Nor was it too scary to scare viewers away from trying to understand or to heal.

The sincerity of the parents and of the survivors was moving. They were very open with the interviewers/moviemakers and that helped us trust the information we were getting. There weren't too many talking-head doctors either.

There was at least a bit of diversity among the participants; although, I wonder what a working-class/low income version of the situation would be. It was very good.
